FPL free transfers and points hits explained
You get one free transfer each gameweek and can save up to five. Every extra transfer costs 4 points. A hit is only worth it if the new player gains you more than 4 points over the time you keep him.

The rules
- Before the Gameweek 1 deadline, transfers are unlimited and free
- After that, you get one free transfer every gameweek
- Unused free transfers roll over, up to a maximum of five
- Each transfer beyond your free ones costs 4 points
- You must replace a player with one in the same position, stay within budget and have no more than three from any club
Why do I have 5 free transfers?
Because you saved them. Each gameweek you don't make a transfer, one rolls over, up to five. Last season FPL also handed out extra free transfers during the Africa Cup of Nations; that is not happening in 2026/27 because the tournament isn't being played in the middle of the season.
Roll or use?
Rolling gives you flexibility: two or three transfers at once can fix a problem that one transfer can't. Use a transfer when one move clearly gains points over the next few weeks or you have a player who isn't playing.
When a −4 hit is worth it
Only when the new player is expected to score more than 4 points more than the player he replaces over the time you plan to keep him, not just this week.
The common exception is a player who won't play at all, through injury or suspension, with no bench cover. A zero is expensive.
