The FPL Free Hit: what it does, how many you get and when to use it
A Free Hit gives you a completely new team for one gameweek, then puts your old team back. It is best saved for weeks when lots of your players have no game, or lots of other teams play twice.
Updated 20 October 2026
What the Free Hit does
For one gameweek you can make as many transfers as you like without taking points hits. You still have to stay within your budget and the three-players-per-club rule. When the gameweek ends, your squad goes back to exactly how it was before.
How many Free Hits do you get?
Two in 2026/27. The first can be played from Gameweek 2 up to Gameweek 19; the second from Gameweek 20 to Gameweek 38. You cannot play one in Gameweek 1.
When to play it
- Blank gameweeks: when several of your players have no fixture and you cannot field a full eleven
- Big double gameweeks: when many teams play twice and you want a one-week team full of them
- Not after one bad week: a Free Hit fixes one gameweek, not your squad
What about 2026/27?
As of 20 October 2026, every Premier League fixture is scheduled and FPL lists no blank or double gameweeks. Those usually appear later in the season when matches are postponed or clash with cup games. If nothing changes, a first-half Free Hit is mostly a way to deal with a week when injuries or suspensions leave you short.
